Severn Lodge is one of Ontario Canada's premier lakeside resorts in the heart of the world famous Muskoka - Georgian Bay lake district. For over 150 years the magnificent beauty and serenity of our idyllic Muskoka lake country has attracted vacationers seeking refuge from their daily routine. The resort is approximately 150 km (90 miles) north of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, a short 90 minute drive. Severn Lodge is one of the few remaining traditional historic Muskoka resorts, and has been attracting discriminating leisure and business travelers from around the world for nearly a century. It is also one of the classic Muskoka family resorts in a long history of traditional family operated Ontario resorts.

The Lodge is located in the southern part of the world famous Muskoka Lake District near Georgian Bay and the hamlet of Port Severn, and encompasses over 100 acres of property with 700 meters (2000 feet) of pristine waterfront. It is situated in a quiet sheltered bay on the northern shores of Gloucester Pool, the western most lake of Ontario's historic Trent Severn Waterway, and overlooks a spectacular array of picturesque pine clad islands. The view is simply breathtaking, and it is difficult to believe that the resort is just a short distance from the greater Toronto area.

Historic Muskoka Resort

The Main Lodge was originally built in the mid 1800's when it served as area headquarters for the Georgian Bay Lumber Company. Ontario was logged over a 30 year period beginning in the 1840's, and after the logging era ended, the property was sold to a wealthy social club from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania that used it as a family vacation retreat. In the early 1920's a group of investors purchased the resort and opened it to the public under the name of Severn Lodge. To fulfill demand for the increasing number of tourists coming to Muskoka in the late 1800's and early 1900's, a number of Ontario resorts were built. Severn Lodge helped fill that demand, and continues to this day catering to family vacations, romantic getaways, meeting & conference, weddings and more.

Conference packages feature waterfront accommodations, fine country dining, and use of our meeting & conference facilities including your meeting room. Additional meeting rooms or breakout rooms are available upon request. Severn Lodge provides a host of other meeting services including a dedicated meeting & conference planner, use of our audio visual equipment, various business services, and a host of recreational opportunities including team building activities. The entire resort including delegate accommodations and meeting rooms is serviced by our 5+Mb wireless high speed internet network.

Weddings

Ontario resorts, and particularly Muskoka resorts, have traditionally provided a very romantic place for weddings, and at Severn Lodge, a timeless tradition of classic memorable and romantic weddings has evolved over the years. Your Muskoka wedding is very special for us too, and we will attend to every detail so that you and your guests will enjoy this very special day.

Wedding packages include the onsite services of our wedding coordinator, private use of your very own wedding resort and wedding facility, a very special wedding ceremony, reception and dinner followed by an evening of dancing. The bride and bridal party can even arrive for the ceremony in our historic 37' Ditchburn mahogany motor launch. What can be more romantic! You can even have a romantic honeymoon at Severn Lodge in one of our waterfront honeymoon cottages, complete with Jacuzzi whirlpool spa and/or fireplace.

Luxury Lakeside Accommodations

Accommodations for fully inclusive resort packages are housed in various lodges surrounding the Main Lodge. Some are individual Muskoka cottages while others are housed in multi-unit Muskoka lodge style buildings, each with their own private lakeside entrance. There are a variety of accommodation styles including traditional hotel style rooms, two bedroom suites, and individual cottages. Some have Jacuzzi whirlpool spa tubs and/or fireplaces.

In addition to these accommodations, there are individual rental cottages and suites that are equipped with kitchens. For those who wish to do their own cooking, economical European plan housekeeping cottage packages are available with accommodations in fully equipped studio and three-bedroom suites and three bedroom cottages. Located lakeside with private deck or balcony, all Severn Lodge housekeeping cottage units are air-conditioned and lavishly outfitted with Jacuzzi baths, colour TVs, high speed internet access and propane barbeques. All housekeeping cottage packages include use of most resort recreational facilities, as well as our summer supervised children's program and evening entertainment. Of course, meal plans are available upon request.

Fine Country Dining

An important part of any resort vacation is the quality of the food served. Over the years Severn Lodge has gained a well earned reputation for delicious meals, popular wines, and gracious country hospitality. All meals are served in our Main Lodge Dining Room where guests can enjoy a view of our magnificent waterfront. Menu items are both regional and international, and are carefully selected to ensure a delightful variety of choices. Guests can also choose from a wine list that features selections of the most popular international and Ontario VQA wines. We feature fine country dining with a family friendly atmosphere. At Severn Lodge we offer American Plan (A.P.), Modified American Plan (M.A.P.), and European Plan (E.P.) accommodation packages, depending on the time of year and the accommodation package that has been selected. As well, resort guests accommodated in our housekeeping cottages have the option of purchasing a meal plan.

Over the years, Severn Lodge has come to be known as the number one family resort in Muskoka. Naturally, in addition to the extensive variety of fabulous food offerings available from our regular dining room menus, we serve food that kids really love as well. While parents dine on sophisticated menu choices like grilled fish or roasted capon, children can happily tuck into their favorite foods too. Our Kid's menus feature a wide selection of kid friendly meals, healthy choices and other delicious items that appeal to the younger set. For an enjoyable and relaxing family mealtime, every evening we set up a kid's dinner buffet so that impatient and hungry little ones don't have to wait to be fed. With items that change nightly, the kids buffet includes wholesome food selections such as homemade soup, fresh vegetable and dip, fresh fruit, as well as hot entrees that kids love such as pizza and pasta dishes. Please let us know if any family member has a food allergy. Our kitchen can prepare alternative menu selections with prior notice. At our Muskoka family resort, we do all that we can to make family dining a pleasure for every member of the family.

During the spring and fall months, our fully inclusive resort accommodation packages include breakfast and dinner daily. During the summer months, just like the luxury Muskoka resorts of the past, Severn Lodge serves their guests breakfast, lunch and dinner. Every morning, our guests can start their day with a light meal or hearty breakfast, selected from our impressive breakfast buffet that features a wide array of delicious foods including oven-fresh baked goods, fresh fruit and juices, pancakes, waffles, bacon, sausage, eggs dishes and so much more. In the summer, lunch is served either in the main dining room, or weather permitting, outside with a poolside barbeque lunch, serving up delicious food, hot off the grill. At lunch, there is always a wide selection of menu choices offered, along with fresh fruit, salads, and of course dessert.

Dinner at Severn Lodge is always a special event. Here you will find Muskoka fine dining at its best. Our talented chefs take traditional lodge dining to a whole new level. Our executive chef Hubert Obermeier was recently honored by The Muskoka and District Chefs’ Association as their "Chef of the Year". Chef Obermeier creates a new dinner menu every evening, offering guests a selection of delicious entrees that change daily, such as Pan Fried Georgian Bay Pickerel, Oven Roasted Ontario Turkey, Pasta Primavera and Alberta Prime Rib of Beef. Skillfully prepared from the finest and the freshest ingredients, our dinner entrees include a variety of the best quality beef, poultry, and fish, along with a vegetarian selection. We use fresh locally grown Muskoka ingredients whenever possible and feature Georgian Bay specialties such as walleye and game meats. Included with every resort American plan dinner is a choice of homemade soups and garden fresh salads, and to top off your fabulous meal, an array of delectable desserts.

Waterfront Recreation & Evening Entertainment

Severn Lodge offers a host of resort recreation facilities including an outdoor heated swimming pool, whirlpool spa, sand beach & lake water swimming, tennis, shuffleboard, volley ball, basketball, horseshoes, games room, 100 acres of wooded hiking trails, and more. In addition, you can enjoy a variety of waterfront sports & recreation including water skiing & tubing, boating, canoeing, pedal boating, kayaking, fishing, outboard boat/motor & jet-ski rentals, mountain biking, and boat cruises in our historic 1922 Ditchburn motor launch!

During the summer months Severn Lodge plays host to a wide variety of talented performers who present fabulous live entertainment productions for the enjoyment of all lodge guests. Every night Severn guests are invited to our Lakeside Regatta Room to enjoy live evening entertainment. These highly enjoyable shows are suitable for the entire family and are approximately 1 1/2 hours in length. Each night features a different show starring a variety of talented performers - perfect for our lodge guests who don't want to leave the tranquility of our lakefront resort in pursuit of exciting after-dinner entertainment. For those who can tear themselves away from the resort, there is also a wide range of options for evening entertainment in the surrounding Muskoka Lakes and South Georgian Bay area that are within close driving distance to Severn Lodge, including live summer stock theatre, motion picture movie theatres, casino gambling, and much more.

Things to Do in the Area

Our surrounding Muskoka - Georgian Bay countryside is filled with many interesting things to see and do including horseback riding, golf, live summer theatre, museums & historic sites, antique and craft shops, theme parks, festivals & fairs, boat cruises, Las Vegas style gambling at Casino Rama, and fabulous shopping in our nearby lakeside villages of Bracebridge, Gravenhurst, Orillia, Barrie and Midland-Penetanguishene, Bala, and others. Guests from outside Ontario will also find the many exciting attractions of Toronto only 90 minutes away. While the summer season is the busiest time of the year in Ontario's cottage country, autumn in Georgian Bay and the Muskoka lakes region is the most beautiful. Warm sun-filled days and cool autumn nights create a brilliant display of beautiful fall foliage. The area comes alive with fall fairs and festivals. Combine a Georgian Bay fall getaway with an Ontario fall colours tour. Severn Lodge has a number of economical off-season packages, fall B&B rates and a Thanksgiving weekend package.

Looking for a fabulous Muskoka golf holiday or Georgian Bay golf weekend? Severn Lodge is within easy driving distance to several public Georgian Bay area golf courses and private golf clubs. Close by, you will find the Evergreen Golf Centre at Severn Bridge, a 9 hole, par-3 golf course, designed by Bill Robinson, that is suitable for the entire family and is reasonably priced. The Brooklea Golf and Country Club, located in Midland Ontario, is a beautifully manicured 27-hole facility featuring an 18-hole championship course and a 9-hole short course. A brief drive down Highway 12 to Coldwater will take you to the Bonaire Golf Course which offers 27 holes of well-maintained course and manicured greens. A little further afield, at Lake Rosseau, the magnificent Faldo designed, The Rock Golf Course is a challenging 18-hole course that snakes between pine forest and sculptured granite. The variety of golf available in the Port Severn, Muskoka region is truly amazing. From nine hole duffer courses to pristine, professional 18 hole clubs, there is a Muskoka golf club to suit all abilities and for all pocket-books.

Every year in mid May, just as spring arrives in central Ontario, Severn Lodge reopens, fresh and sparking clean to begin yet another exciting season. Spring is a glorious time of year and the perfect time to take pleasure in the many natural wonders that the Muskoka-Georgian Bay area has to offer. During this quieter time of year there are plenty of outdoor activities available to enjoy such as hiking, biking, fishing and golf. The weather is mild, spring flowers are in bloom and the waters of Gloucester Pool are quickly warmed by the sun. A Muskoka spring getaway at Severn Lodge is the ideal time for romantic couples to get back to nature. We offer spring weekend packages, spring midweek escapes, romance packages and more. During the spring months, Muskoka fishing is at its best. For your convenience, Severn offers onsite outboard fishing boat rentals, along with gasoline, fishing licenses and bait.
